CHIANG RAI ENCHANTING TOUR article

4 DAYS/3 NIGHTS CHIANG RAI ENCHANTING TOUR

Day 1

Depart Chiang Mai in the morning to visit an orchid farm. Visit the Elephant Training Centre and see how the young elephants are trained for use in lumber work. Then take an approximately 90-minute round-trip trek on elephant-back to a Lisu village which is inaccessible by other means.
Lunch will be provided at a local restaurant. After lunch, visit the beautiful Chiang Dao Cave. Then travel to Tha Ton district for an overnight stay at a comfortable hotel overlooking Mae Kok River. Dinner at the hotel. (L,D).

Day 2

After breakfast at the hotel, travel on to Doi (Hill) Mae Salong. On the way stops will be made at various hilltribe villages including the Living
Museum at Ban Lorcha for a full tour of the community with hilltribe villagers demonstrating activities normally done in their village but rarely seen by outsiders. The history of  Doi Mae Salong began when the KMT (Kuomintang Chinese) came to Doi Mae Salong by circuitous routes. When they fled the communist uprising in China, they first settled in Laos and Burma (now Myanmar). Doi Mae Salong is one of the places allowed  by The Thai Government for some Chinese refugees from Myanmar. It is known for its enchantingly beautiful scenery, calm and revealing nature.
Lunch will be in a local Chinese Restaurant on Doi Mae Salong. Then watch the interesting art of tea making and try some Chinese tea before travelling on to Chiang Rai for an overnight stay. Dinner at the hotel. (B, L, D)

Day 3

Breakfast at the hotel. Drive north towards Mae Sai, then drive up to a mountaintop where a most sacred and elegant temple, Doi Tung, is located. From here, a spectacular view can be seen when the weather is clear. Also visit the palace of the late Princess Mother (the King's mother) and the beautiful botanical garden near the palace. Proceed on to Mae Sai at the northernmost tip of Thailand bordering Myanmar. Lunch at Mae Sai and travel to the Golden Triangle. Visit Wat Pangao and enjoy a breathtaking view of the Makong River. Also visit the Opium Museum before checking in at a hotel in the Golen Triangle area. (B, L, D).

Day 4

Breakfast at the hotel and the morning at leisure.
Transfer to Chaing Rai Airport with visit to Chiang Saen, the national museum, on days when it is open, and an old temple on the way. (B)
