Depart Bangkok and visit the ruins of Ayutthaya, the former capital city of Thailand. Visit Khao Yai National Park which covers 542,000 acres of forest, jungle and grassland spread over rolling hills. Visit the village of Dan Kwian, where a unique and very attractive type of local earthenware is made. Visit the impressive hilltop Khmer temple of Khao Phanom Rung and the nearby picturesque Prasat Muang Tam, which was built before Phanom Rung. Then proceed to Surin, well known for its annual Elephant Round-up. Travel to Ubon Ratchatani with visit to Prasat Sikhoraphum which consists of five prangs (pagodas). Then visit Pa Taem (Taem Cliff) in the easternmost district of Ubon Ratchatani Province. There are prehistoric paintings on the side of overhanging cliffs, protected from the elements.
